January 25, 1943 - March 3, 2018
Janice L Boulton Mateka, 75, of North Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 3, 2018 in Allegheny General Hospital. Her unexpected and sudden passing make the pain even more difficult to bear for the loved ones she left behind. A daughter of the late Edward H. and Ruth Strenske Braithwood, she was born in North Belle Vernon on January 25, 1943. Janice was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon and the Eastern Star. Jan lived her life loving, honoring, and worshiping Christ. A lifelong resident of North Belle Vernon, she graduated from Bellmar High School in 1960, and from California University in 1963 with a degree in elementary education. Janice started her career teaching 6th grade at Monessen, and she then taught 4th grade at Rostraver Elementary where she retired in 2008 after 44 years of teaching. Jan had a special way of touching the hearts of everyone she met and was a favorite teacher of the students fortunate enough to be in her classroom. Jan was a kind, loving, generous, compassionate, and selfless sophisticated lady. She enjoyed volunteering with her church, travelling with friends, going to the Benedum and living life to the fullest. Survivors include her soul mate and beloved husband John 'J.T.' Mateka, with whom she celebrated 6 years of marriage on February 18, 2018. Jan often said it took her 52 years to find him but he was worth the wait. She is also survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Michele Soltysiak of Virginia, Danielle Dragan of South Fayette Twp. and Lynette and Neil Murray of Mt. Lebanon, three grandchildren, Zachary Dragan, Trinity Dragan and Jarek Soltysiak, an uncle and aunt, Harold and Rose Mary Strenske, cousins: Karen Strenske and Joe Burnsworth, Bill and Amy Strenske, and Sherry Strenske all of Belle Vernon, Kay and John Conger of Donora, and Cathy and Steve Reale of Ligonier, and her best buddy and furry companion, Mr. Buttons. In addition to her loving family she will be greatly missed and forever remembered by her extended family, John Popelas, Jeannine Mullen, and Tami, David and Brian Brazon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William A. 'Bill' Boulton in 2007 and a beloved, and precious beautiful daughter, Leigh Ann Boulton on May 30, 1988.
